The day I walked into court wearing $2 billion worth of jewelry to sign the divorce papers, I left my ex-husband's entire family paralyzed with shock… But what he did next was even more terrifying.

The day I entered the Monterrey courthouse, all eyes in the hallway were on me. They weren't looking at me because I was crying, or because the man walking a few steps behind me looked weak or defeated. They were looking at me because the diamond jewelry I was wearing shone so brightly under the courthouse lights that the entire waiting room was silent as I walked down the hall.

The woman my husband's family had always called "the poor country woman" had arrived that morning wearing an elegant black dress that fit her perfectly. A diamond necklace worth nearly a hundred thousand dollars rested peacefully on my neck, and a thin platinum bracelet sparkled on my wrist with every movement of my hand.

Her hair was carefully styled and her makeup was subtle yet refined, causing even strangers in the courtroom to look at her with curiosity, trying to guess who she was.

Ten years earlier, my life had been completely different. Back then, I was just a poor girl from a modest neighborhood in Phoenix, Arizona, and the man who would later become my husband, Brandon Parker, owned almost nothing but an old pickup truck and a firm dream of one day building a successful business.

Our wedding was extremely simple because neither of us had any money. The only food we ate was roast chicken, warm tortillas, and several bottles of cheap beer from the corner store, but I remember smiling all day as if the starry sky were around my neck.

Ten years later, that dream had come true in ways neither of them expected. What began as a small grocery store in a quiet residential area slowly expanded into the largest chain of neighborhood mini-markets in the region.

Money began to flow in rapidly, and our lives changed with it. We moved into a large house with tall windows, bought expensive cars, and attended luxurious business parties where investments and growth plans were discussed.
