He looked like someone who realized the ground had disappeared beneath his feet.
Then came the final blow.
The company used to move money?
It wasn't in his name.
I wasn't at Trent's house.
I was at my mother's house.
I didn't even understand what I had signed.
But legally, he was responsible.
When I showed him the document, he broke down.
"I didn't know that," she whispered.
"They needed someone to take the blame," I said.
He looked at Julian.
He said nothing.
After that, everything fell apart.
Julian's law license was revoked.
Then they accused him.
Of fraud, perjury and tax evasion.
Lauren disappeared.
Trent was arrested.
My sister lost everything.
My mother reached an agreement with the prosecution and lost her house.
They asked me if I felt guilty.
No.
Not because it was cruel.
But because, for the first time, he was not burdened by other people's consequences.
